Tim Wakefield opens tonight's matchup against Chien-Ming Wang in round 3 of the Red Sox vs. Yankees series. Boston leads the series 5-1, after 6, and lead all teams with a 30-13 record.
Going into tonight's game, New York is 19-23 and are seeking revenge for some beatings Boston has given them this year. Wang lost his last time against the Ole Town Team giving up homer runs to David Ortiz and Alex Cora. Wakefield, too, lost in his last match up against the steroid-tolerant men in pin-stripes. He only allowed 3 runs, but that was 3 too many as the Sox managed only 1 run in a game which saw Yankees starter Jeff Karstens out after only 6 pitches after Julio Lugo ripped a line drive off Karstens' right leg, fracturing his fibula and sending him to the disabled list. The Sox are looking to widen their sizeable lead in the AL East. Boston holds a distinct advantage over the Yankees in the struggling AL East: | Team | Record against AL East Teams | | New York Yankees | 3 - 11
| Boston Red Sox
| 14 - 5
