Tom Lortie of Lowell, MA! Tom is the proud winner of the Inaugural Wily Mo Pena Poetry contest. Well done Tom for such an original and heartwarming composition: Wily Mo American Folklore style poem "22".
You, the public voted for it and here it is: 22
Wily Mo on deck Sniffs his bat Biting the trademark Hear the maple crack
With his mammoth hands He grips this small tree Feel the wind in the stands As he swings, one, two, three
He steps into the box As the pitcher sheds a tear Like every hurler before He trembles with fear
The crowd starts to roar Their hero ready at the plate They’ve seen it before And lefty knows his fate
It’s a fast ball and it’s low Radar reads 97! No matter for Wily mo This balls going to heaven
Stepping toward the mound The giant takes his cut His bat is a blur The ball cracks like a nut
It’s a drive to Left! And it slams through the wall! like old iron sides just fired a cannon ball!
is it a double? Where did it fall? The umpires are speechless No idea what to call
“Wily Mo killed the Monster” fans yell! as they pour onto the sod They all want to worship Wily Mo Pena, second son of God |
