Last night began like any other Wednesday evening. Bumper to bumper commute, the quick errand squeezed in and the rush home to catch the first pitch. The extra half hour afforded me by the kind folks at Turner Stadium allows me to sink into the couch with dinner in hand. I turn on the set and hear the familiar voices of Rem and Orsillo before the picture comes into view. The TV is right where I left it on Tuesday night, tuned to NESN...

As I get settled in and take my first bite of food, I'm stunned by the early crack of that bat with JD Drew's lead-off homer. "This isn't going to be an ordinary night, is it?",  I rhetorically ask myself. Five runs later the top of the first mercifully comes to an end for Atlanta. Not a bad way for Tavarez to make his start being spotted such a lead before throwing a pitch. A one, two, three bottom of the inning and then the Sox are back at it. Lugo goes down for the first out and Drew steps to the plate for the second time in as many innings. He hits it hard again, and just then something happens. He injures himself legging out the double. JD goes on to score, the inning ends with the Sox picking up another two, but Wily Mo has now replaced him in Right field! Just then the phone rings. It's Karen, my girlfriend, calling from her son's Little League game. She says "Let me set the stage for you... it's 2 outs, bases loaded, bottom of the 6th, score tied 6 - 6... guess who steps to the plate?" I know she is referring to her son Brandon, who can be a little devil at times, so seeing the opportunity, I come back with "let me guess... DAMIAN?" "that's right!" she exclaims, "and he got the game winning hit!"

* a side note - Karen was born on October 31st, and "Damian" AKA Brandon,  her son was born the morning after Halloween, 29 years later. *

At the same time Drew is hurting himself, to be replaced by Wily Mo, Brandon hits the game winning hit in his Little League playoff game. Is this coincedence or some strange omen? I suggest BOTH.

Brandon has Wily Mo Pena listed as his favorite player on his Little League baseball card. I can't wait to see what the little devil does next!
